ACFWConference Leave a Comment

With the economy down and being on a fixed income, it looked doubtful that I would make the ACFW conference this year. I haven’t missed one since my first in 2005, and I couldn’t imagine missing this year’s.

So what’s a writer to do? There were others in worse financial straits, so I didn’t apply for a scholarship. Then it hit me. I’ve got things in my home that have some value but aren’t particularly sentimental. Once I made the decision, it wasn’t hard to make the next step of actually letting these things go.

That’s right … bring out the gavel!

First, I got an appraisal, which was very favorable. It’s documented and notarized. No one can accuse this writer of not doing her research. Then the hubs photographed the items for me. Then we put them up for auction. And I’m registering for conference this week!

Why was I willing to part with family estate jewelry/antiques you ask?

Because I have a dream.

The ACFW conference equips me to reach the fruition of that dream. It’s investing in my future, and I can’t see a better use for those items. Where else can I receive great teaching by industry experts, meet with agents and editors, and network with other writers?

Where else can I get the encouragement, prayer, hugs, and fellowship my writer’s soul craves? I can subsist on chocolate and caffeine only so long, y’know.

See y’all in St. Louis!!!

  1. Ane, What a great idea for acquiring the resources for conference fees! I’m glad you’re coming to the conference and glad we got a chance to connect again at the ICRS this past Monday. 🙂

  2. Ane! So happy you get to go! Where there’s a will, there’s a way! Can’t wait to experience my first conference and meet you in person!

  3. Hmmm … “funny” this up and … well, you know the rest… 🙂

You have to go … what would it be like without you?
